“Working with Susanna and the New Creation team was more of a blessing than I could imagine. Their tender care during two very difficult labors helped my husband and I to push through and deliver our daughters safely and naturally.”
The role of a Birth Doula
The word "doula" comes from a greek word meaning "female slave or servant." In the modern context, a Birth Doula is a woman professionally trained in labor support with the experience and skill set to support women and their partners throughout pregnancy, labor and delivery and the early postpartum time. Studies have shown that having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%.
A Birth Doula is not...
A birth doula is not a medical professional and does not provide any medical care. Although many of the New Creation doulas aspire to be midwives someday, our roles during birth are different. Your doula will provide non-medical support to mother and father throughout the entire pregnancy and works only for you, not for a hospital or medical office. Whereas your nurse, midwife or doctor may be caring for many patients and be unable to give you his or her undivided attention.
What about dads?
Many dads are concerned that the birth doula will displace them during the birth of their child. The role of a doula is never to take the place of the father but to compliment and enhance the experience for both parents. Your doula will help you to craft a birth plan which includes the father in whatever capacity he desires. Some dads prefer to wait in the hallway and some want to catch the baby. Regardless of your vision, we are here to support both mother and father and facilitate the best birth experience possible.

Birth Doula Services including
Group Childbirth Education Class
Full price for individual services would be $1100 for birth doula and $250 for Childbirth Education. We believe that education is so important that we discount doula prices by $100 and Childbirth Education by $50 to encourage you to take the class. In other words, it only cost $100 more instead of $250 more to take the class than it would to just have a doula without the class.
