Lacey

Birth Photographer

Lacey hold's a BSN in nursing and worked for 5 years as a postpartum, mother/baby nurse. While she is very thankful for the training she received and the experiences she had as a nurse, she felt she wanted a more personal relationship with those she was serving. She walked away from nursing in 2015 and served the next four years as a housemom in a maternity home located in Raleigh, NC. There she was able to build long term relationships with the residents and had the absolute honor to support many of them during their labor and delivery. Through the ministry she met Susanna who donated birth classes to these under-served young women. When it came time for Lacey to give birth to her daughter in 2018 she was excited to have Susanna be her doula. Having a pain medication free delivery was an incredibly empowering experience for Lacey and she believes the education provided to her and her husband along with the doula service is what made it possible for her to have a peaceful, empowering, and even worshipful childbirth experience. Lacey’s experience as a photographer and as a lifetime student of women’s health and childbirth have found the perfect marriage in birth photography. She is excited to capture the moments that women may not remember during their labor and delivery.

Lacey believes that childbirth is a very vulnerable time for women, but it can be a very empowering experience. Birth photography is different than other types of photography because there is no posing, no hair and makeup, no perfectly coordinated outfits. It is raw and real and vulnerable. Some women may feel hesitant about having a birth photographer present, or even having pictures of their birth because they may not look “perfect” according to our culture’s standards. There is hair out of place, there are stretch marks, there are pained expressions.  Psalm 139:13-14 says “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Birth photography is an opportunity to not only capture this new life that is fearfully and wonderfully made but to reframe a mother’s perspective about herself. Lacey desires to show the beauty in each of those “imperfections.” She is fearfully and wonderfully made! Her body was created to birth this child and she is perfectly equipped to mother this child. My passion is to tell your birth story through photographs.
